You have to understand that, back then, Optimus Prime was THE transformer, since he was a big freightliner truck, powerful, wise and with indisputable leadership skills. I watched the movie in theater, when I was a kid, back in 1986, and certainly it was a total shock to see that the mighty leader of the Autobots was dying, and even worse when the movie was barely beginning. The key chosen moment to explore in this comic book (as you may already noticed in the information displayed on the cover) is taken from Transformers: The Animated Movie (1986) when Optimus Prime died in battle against Megatron, barely in the first act of the theatrical presentation. THAT’S THE TRANSFORMER YOU’RE LOOKING FOR So, this comic book is totally accessible to anybody interested on it. Then, you start to read the “alternate” story with the assistance of a narrator indicating the key moments when the continuity is suffering twists. Since, this comic book begins describing how the “original” incident happened, in case you aren’t familiarized with it. If all other comic books of this event share the same format, I have to say that it’s a really good one. I wasn’t awared about this IDW event, but I found this comic book in the shelves of my local comic book store, since I noticed that it was labeled as “one-shot”, so I don’t see any reason of why not buying it.
